Shedding Your identity

Now in the digital age it is virtually impossible to become entirely invisible. More and more people are creating emails and internet websites as a way to access them or their company, instead of by phone or regular U.S. mail. People may have a sense of invisibility because of their inability to define themselves but in a literal sense I don't think anyone can be invisible.

Making Inferences Through Visual Arts

The mass amount of lights in the narrator's apartment was the biggest thing that stood out to me. This scene was very strange. I could follow his thoughts and understood his fierce determination to be seen in a world that he feels invisible, but I felt lining his whole basement-apartment was unnecessary.

Tell me, who are you?

I define the term identity as how a person defines them self. How ever a person may see them self is how I feel they should be seen. I think identity is based more on obvious personality traits and appearance, than things that may only be seen by knowing someone personally.

"Gatsby?" demanded Daisy. "What Gatsby?"

I do not like Gatsby very much. I feel like he is sketchy and makes a person second guess themselves. The quote from page 32 shows that people receive an unsettling vibe from him just from his supposed reputation. I also feel like Gatsby has a sort of stalker vibe going on with his seemingly unrequited love for Daisy. Most men would move on knowing that the woman they love is married, yet Gatsby stays as close as possible to Daisy. The quote from page 78 exhibits a mix of sweet but nerve racking feelings toward Gatsby. I'm hoping that my impression of Gatsby changes, though, as it said on page 2 that Gatsby turns out all right in the end. That leaves me open-minded about Gatsby's persona, hoping that I'll view his personality different based on his actions.

"Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, was exempt from my reaction...Gatsby turned out all right at the end..." (pg. 2)

"Well, they say he's a nephew or cousin of Kaiser Wilhem's...I'm scared of him. I'd hate to have him get anything on me." (pg. 32)

"Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay." (pg. 78)

Previewing the Great Gatsby

I think the book is considered a masterpiece because of how honest and simple it may turn out to be. If the book lacks answers to problems or comforting messages, then the aspect that is so great must be its simplicity and description of how life was back in the 1920's, without sugar coating it.
I don't expect to read about a man's boring life, but I do expect wild adventures, insight to the extravagant lifestyle, and the very common problems people experienced during the 1920's. I feel because the book is so true, it cannot be ignored, and allows people to relate to the story line easily. In the 1920's, readers could probably see themselves in the book, going through the same experiences as Gatsby and coming to the same conclusion.

Gift Issues

Yes, I have received a gift that I did not want many times before. I would thank the person I received the gift from and then see if I could find a use for it. Other times I have re-gifted the item for another person's birthday or Christmas present.

Who Do I Want To Become?

I want to grow up happy with myself and proud of my accomplishments. I want to graduate from high school with a sense of success and to know I got where I did with my talents and strengths. After high school, I plan on going to college. My first choice school is the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan to major in film making. Movies are a huge part of my life, making them and watching them alike. Many people don't feel that film making is an acceptable profession, but those same people don't see the passion in films. Films open the population to a new world they would otherwise not be experiencing, which to me is the coolest thing that can be done.

Who Am I?

I am opinionated, artistic, and original. I like to voice my opinions, often a bit too loudly but usually it is all in good fun. The activity that defines my life is Marching Band. Even though Marching Band is viewed as nerdy, my involvement in it has taught me discipline, dedication and best of all, leadership skills. Besides Marching Band, I am also very involved in Art Reach/Photo Art Club. We're given artistic challenges and allowed to express a very high level of artistic creativity. Its nice to go to the club after a long day at school to wind down and hang with some good friends. I would definitely describe myself as a Marching Band, art club, music, and history nerd.
